The latest homicide took place around 7:55 p.m., Thursday, June 25, in front of 527 Huntington Road, said Scott Appleby, director of emergency communications and emergency management.
During the drive-by shooting, four people were struck by gunfire, resulting in the death of 21-year-old Tyler Ballew, of Bridgeport, who was struck in the head and collapsed at the scene, said Bridgeport Police Capt. Brain Fitzgerald.
Ballew was transported by medics to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Fitzgerald said.
Two females and a male were also struck by gunfire while seated in a vehicle, he added. The second man and one of the women sustained graze wounds to the head, and the second wound was shot in the abdomen, Fitzgerald said.
All were transported to Bridgeport Hospital and treated.
"None of the surviving victims would cooperate with the police," said Fitzgerald. "Detectives believe all of the victims were intended targets."
During the latest shooting event, mutual aid was called in from surrounding communities and the state police to assist Bridgeport Police with calls for service within the city along with security at BPT Hospital, Appley said.
Thursday's homicide is the ninth homicide so far this year, and the third this week.
On Monday, June 22 through early Tuesday, June 23, two people were killed and multiple people were injured during a series of shootings.
Anyone with information regarding the latest homicide is asked to contact Detective Robert Winkler, the lead investigator, at 203-581-5224.
